City of Mesa
Red Mountain Park Expansion
Mesa’s Largest Park Is Now Complete!
PARKS AND RECREATION | ATHLETIC FACILITIES
When the City of Mesa residents voted to fund a major expansion and upgrade to Red Mountain Park, they were seeking athletic fields for a variety of sports. The City and its project team developed a plan to meet these needs while using land and resources responsibly, installing energy efficient features, using maintenance features that will conserve water, and preserving the native desert environment along the eastern boundary of the park.
The park improvements provide the following amenities:
- 10 multi-use fields, including soccer and baseball/softball fields
- Disc golf course relocation and updates
- Two restroom facilities
- Parking lot expansion
- Landscaping improvements, with accommodations to allow the native plants to grow back in the areas disturbed by construction
Valley Rain was chosen for this CMAR for another great collaboration with the City of Mesa and Dig Studio. This partnership worked flawlessly through design to construction on key topics:
- Key environmental sustainability consideration on the project was water use and conservation through drought tolerance turf and drainage systems
- Re-routing equestrian trails which allowed them to stay open during construction
- Balancing earthwork which cut costs and reduced the hauling efforts.
