2021 Valley Forward Awards

Fraesfield and Granite Mountain Trailheads

The City of Scottsdale’s Fraesfield and Granite Mountain Trailheads Project was recently selected for the prestigious 2020-21 Crescordia Award from Arizona Forward in both the Civil and Natural Environment Preservation categories. This project expanded two primitive trailheads at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve to provide visitor amenities such as shade structures, interpretive learning and wayfinding signage, restrooms, and parking for vehicles and equestrians. This project balanced creating recreational spaces that can be enjoyed for decades to come while preserving the character and ecology of the surrounding desert environment. Congratulations to the hard working project team of the City of Scottsdale, SmithGroup, Valley Rain team members, and construction partners.

USS Arizona Memorial Gardens

Valley Rain is proud to announce that the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens at Salt River is the winner of the 2022 Award of Distinction from Arizona Forward (Building & Structures Category). This visually striking community landmark commemorates the World War II attacks on Pearl Harbor with a full scale representation of the sunken USS Arizona protruding from the lake. We would like to congratulate the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, J2 Engineering & Environmental Design, BCA Architects, and all of our other project delivery partners on this successful project.

Paloma Community Park Phase 1

The City of Peoria’s Paloma Community Park Phase 1 was a finalist for the Arizona Forward 2020-21 Healthy Communities and Landscape Design Awards. This 88-acre park provides a four-season outdoor space with lighted recreational sports fields, a 3.5-acre fishing lake, picnic ramadas, overlook plaza, inclusive-designed playground, and so much more.
